ABOUT
PORTERCORP
PorterCorp, founded in 1964 as
W. H. Porter, Inc., is a design, engineering and manufacturing company
focusing on exterior structures and insulated building envelopes. PorterCorp
was one of the first producers of SIPs (Structural Insulated Panels).
PorterSIPs™
were an outgrowth of the
marine industry where it was found that one of the best ways to build an
economical, structural boat bottom was with a plastic foam core in sandwich
construction with fiberglass. During the 1950's and 60's, Bill Porter was
the R & D Manager for boat manufacturer Chris Craft Corporation. To expand
PorterSIPs™ construction,
PorterCorp developed the first tubular, bolt together steel frame with
concealed bolts, and combined it with
PorterSIPs™
to create an office building.
This system is now marketed as Space-Frames™
. The following year, PorterCorp created the first park
shelter using the same tubes and hidden bolt technology. This product,
marketed as POLIGON®, started a
revolution in public park structures. Recently, PorterCorp has expanded its
shelter line to include a series of fabric covered steel frame structures
marketed as Parasol™
